Big Walk Voice Chat Fix: Mic Troubleshooting

Diagnose intended proximity behavior before checking a real microphone or platform fault.

Quick answer: bug or proximity design?

First stand close to the other player in an open area. Big Walk intentionally makes voices fade with distance, echo through corridors, muffle through walls, and crackle through walkie-talkies. If someone becomes audible again when nearby, the chat is likely behaving as designed.

If a nearby player still cannot hear you, open Settings → Audio and watch Microphone Activity while you speak. No movement there points to an input, permission, mute, or platform-setting problem rather than normal proximity falloff.

Diagnostic flow

1. Test at close range

Move next to one teammate with no wall or soundproof barrier between you. Do not use hearing a distant player as the pass/fail test: distance and obstruction are intentional parts of both voice and text chat.

2. Watch Microphone Activity

Open Settings → Audio and speak normally.

  • If the activity indicator moves, Big Walk is receiving input. Check distance, barriers, the listener's volume, and whether either player is muted or silenced.
  • If it does not move, continue through the microphone checks below.

3. Check the physical microphone and mute state

  • Test the microphone in another program.
  • Make sure the plug is fully connected.
  • Check the headset or microphone's hardware mute switch.
  • If using a boom microphone, lower it into its active position.
  • Check Settings → Audio → Mute Mode. When set to hold, the assigned talk control must remain held.
  • Check the moderation menu and confirm the player has not been silenced.

4. Confirm the system input and volume

In the operating system's sound settings, confirm that the intended microphone is active and that its input level is high enough. The official FAQ specifically recommends adjusting system-level input volume and keeping the microphone close enough to the speaker's mouth when voices are unusually quiet.

This page does not name a Windows device menu or driver fix because the reviewed source package does not verify one universal path or cause.

5. Apply the platform-specific check

  • PlayStation 5: press the PS button, open Sound (speaker icon), and turn off Mute Game Voice Chat. The official FAQ and a documented community case agree that this system toggle can block game chat.
  • macOS: open System Settings → Privacy & Security → Microphone and enable microphone access for Big Walk.

6. Check the current game version

Version 1.4.8 addresses a known problem that made some voices unintentionally quiet. It does not remove the intended proximity falloff. This version note was verified on August 11, 2026 and should be rechecked if a later patch changes voice behavior.

7. Restart after changing device settings

After changing microphone permissions, the selected input, or a platform voice toggle, fully close Big Walk, reopen it, and repeat the close-range Microphone Activity test. This is a general device-reset step, not a claim that restarting fixes every Big Walk voice issue.
